Aki elég bátor hozzá, hogy egy törékeny járműben az óceán legmélyebb részébe, sosem látott tájakra és ismeretlen lények közé ereszkedjen, az valószínűleg az emberektől sem ijed meg.
Pedig ennek a kutatóhajónak a két legkeményebb búvára (Jason Statham és Wu Jing) már nemcsak a víz mélyén, örök sötétben élő, rejtőzködő őscápákkal kénytelen szembenézni. Ugyanis mások is vannak odalenn: egy önző bányavállalat magának akarja az óceánfenék különleges kincseit, és legalább olyan kegyetlen, mint a mélység ragadozói. A kutatóhajó két tűz közé szorul a víz alatt: még nem biztos, hogy az óriáscápák vagy az emberi mohóság a gonoszabb ellenfelük. De az biztos, hogy ha életben akarnak maradni, akkor gyorsabbnak, ravaszabbnak, bátrabbnak kell lenniük mindenkinél, aki ellenük fordul – miközben több ezer méter mélyen vannak a víz alatt.
