Néhány orvosegyetemista bátor és őrült kísérletre szánja el magát. A halál utáni élet érdekli őket, hát próbaképpen meghalnak. Mindez persze laboratóriumi körülmények között zajlik, a barátaik meg ott vannak mellettük, és a megfelelő pillanatban mindig újraélesztik őket.

De lassacskán rá kell jönniük, hogy a bátorságuk vakmerőség volt. Átjutottak a túloldalra, és sikerült visszajönniük, de valami olyasmit hoztak magukkal, amire nem készültek fel. A halál ott marad velük, és hiába élnek, nem tudnak megszabadulni tőle…

A 90-es évek egyik legizgalmasabb pszicho-thrillerét álmodták újra és pörgették fel a fiatal alkotók – akik az akkori film egyik sztárját, Kiefer Sutherlandet is meggyőzték, hogy a modern változatban is térjen vissza.
