A libanoni keresztény autószerelő, Tony becsülettel üzemelteti saját műhelyét, és ha igazságtalanságot érez, azonnal hangot ad neki – még akkor is, ha ezzel bajba sodorja magát. A palesztin menekült Yasser hasonló mentalitású építésvezető, akit a környék csatornahálózatának felújításával bíznak meg. Amikor Tony megtagadja Yassertől, hogy megszerelje az erkélye ereszét, ő önhatalmúlag nekilát a munkának. Kettejük látszólag tét nélküli összeszólalkozása felszínre hozza az egymás mellett élő nemzetekben szunnyadó feszültséget, visszafordíthatatlan láncreakciót indítva el.

A sértés az első libanoni film, amelyet Oscarra jelöltek. A nemzetközi elismerések egyaránt köszönhetők a végig fenntartott, thrillerekhez fogható feszültségnek és az alkotásban bemutatott mélyen emberi, rendkívül aktuális társadalmi problémát kirajzoló személyes történeteknek.
