Csabai László népszerű nyomozója, Szindbád-Schiffer az NSZK-ból Amerikába érkezik, és country-énekesként éli az életét Észak-Nebraskában. Egy nap megbízást kap, hogy régi társával, az újságíró Hunyadival meg az indián Álomlátó-Dickinsonnal hajtsanak el egy gulyát a vasúthoz. Road movie-hoz hasonló utazás kezdődik, melynek során kiderül: a környéken sorozatgyilkost keres a rendőrség és az FBI, és szükségük van Szindbád tudására is.

S miközben a történet westernparódiából thrillerbe fordul, egy filmklasszikus szereplői is színre lépnek, hogy egy olyan küzdelemben vegyenek részt, amely talán már nem is csak a látható világban zajlik.
