Decker épp a szülővárosában, az ohiói Burlingtonban tesz látogatást, amikor megkeresi egy férfi, Meryl Hawkins.
Egy elítélt gyilkos. Igazság szerint az első gyilkos, akit Decker rács mögé juttatott.
Most azonban, hogy kiengedték a börtönből, azt állítja, hogy ártatlan. Ezenkívül halálos beteg, és az az utolsó kívánsága, hogy Decker tisztázza a nevét.
