Katrina Smythe 18 éves, középiskolába jár és egy éve élőhalott. Ez a legjobb dolog, ami valaha történt vele. Úgy érzi, végre illik a boszorkányokból, vámpírokból és vérfarkasokból álló családjába. Hab a véres tortán, hogy erősebb, gyorsabb és kitartóbb lett, ráadásul megszabadult az összes rémes, idegesítő emberi érzelemtől.

Ám minden megváltozik, amikor Tate Walker, az új szomszédjuk felbukkan a küszöbön. Nem elég, hogy a srác felháborítóan vonzó, de egy természetfelettiekre vadászó família sarja. Katrina készen áll rá, hogy rövid úton eltávolítsa az életükből a betolakodókat, ám ekkor valami felfoghatatlan történik: a vadászcsalád segítséget kér tőle.
