A Cannes-i Nemzetközi Filmfesztiválra rendszeresen visszatérő, Arany Pálmával (Dheepan – Egy menekült története) és a Zsűri Díjával (A próféta) kitüntetett Jacques Audiard eddigi legmeglepőbb filmje egyszerre könyörtelen gengszterfilm, őrült komédia és extravagáns musical. Az Emilia Pérez újra elhozta Audiard számára a Zsűri Díját, míg Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez és Adriana Paz együtt vehették át a legjobb színésznőknek járó elismerést. Ezt követően az Európai Filmdíjátadón öt kategóriában győzedelmeskedett: elnyerte a legjobb film, rendezés, forgatókönyv, vágó és színésznő (Karla Sofía Gascón) díját, és a legtöbb – összesen tíz – kategóriában jelölték Arany Glóbuszra.
