Elhunyt XVI. Benedek nyugalmazott pápa

Kilencvenöt éves korában szombaton 9 óra 34 perckor elhunyt XVI. Benedek nyugalmazott pápa, aki 2005 és 2013 között volt a római katolikus egyház feje – jelentette be a Vatikán.

    Matteo Bruni vatikáni szóvivő elmondta: „Fájdalommal jelentem be, hogy XVI. Benedek nyugalmazott pápa ma 9 óra 34 perckor a vatikáni Mater Ecclesia (Egyház Anyja) kolostorban elhunyt. A lehető leghamarabb további tájékoztatást adunk”.


    XVI. Benedek a modern kor első egyházfője volt, aki 600 év után először lemondott a pápaságról. Ferenc pápa megválasztását követően a saját magának kijelölt nyugalmazott pápa címmel visszaköltözött a Vatikánba, ahol a Mater Ecclesiae kolostorban élt. Utoljára 2020 júniusában mutatkozott a nyilvánosság előtt.
