Konrád József első regénye egyszerre tekinthető búcsúnak és indulásnak. Lezárása a hagyatéknak, az apai örökségnek, és kezdése egy különálló életnek, irodalmi pályának. A behajtó főhőse és egyik elbeszélője Dávid, a bohém fiatalember, aki apja, a híres író, Konrád Áron halála után általában menekül a világ és konkrétan az uzsorásai elől. Kaotikus bulik, könnyű drogok és nehéz éjszakák között bolyong. Közben közvetlen közel kerülünk a bibliai Dávid király történetéhez is. Pasarét kanyargós utcái egy mondaton belül érnek az Olajfák lejtőihez. Egy másik szálon a pénzbehajtó monoton mindennapjait ismerjük meg, aki a főhős nyomába ered. Miután megismeri Dávidot és családját, elképesztő ötlettel áll elő. Törleszteni sokféleképpen lehet. A behajtó pontos nyelvével, radikális gesztusaival az elmúlt évek magyar irodalmának egyik legerősebb indulása.
