Vannak gyárak, amelyekben csak ülő, vagy csak álló munkát lehet végezni, van, ahol nem kötelező az egyenruha és vannak olyanok is, ahol 175 cm-nél magasabb tetovált embereket nem foglalkoztatnak. A gépsorokon szőnyegek, kozmetikumok, távcsövek, mobiltelefonok és műfenyők mellett gumibabák is készülnek. A dolgozók minden mozdulatát kamerák és elöljáróik árgus szemei figyelik.
A főnökök “Super Boss” tréningeken sajátítják el a meggazdagodáshoz szükséges magatartást, de igény szerint az európai etikettet oktató és a jó megjelenést garantáló tanfolyamokra is befizethetnek. A leggazdagabbak számára angolul beszélő komornyikokat és testőröket képeznek. A kínai gazdasági felemelkedés nem ismer határokat.
ASCENSION is an impressionistic portrait of China’s industrial supply chain that reveals the country’s growing class divide through staggering observations of labor, consumerism and wealth. The documentary portrays capitalism in China across the levels of its operation, from the crudest mine to the most rarefied forms of leisure. Accordingly, the film is structured in three parts, ascending through the levels of the capitalist structure: workers running factory production, the middle class training for and selling to aspirational consumers, and the elites reveling in a new level of hedonistic enjoyment. In traveling up the rungs of China’s social ladder, we see how each level supports and makes possible the next while recognizing the contemporary “Chinese Dream” remains an elusive fantasy for most.

Anny azért a kevésért is nagyon sokat dolgozik. Látjuk mellékhelységeket és vonatokat takarítani, és kisboltban, eladóként. És látjuk az utcasarkon is, a kuncsaftokra várakozni.
Az életvidám cseh hölgy 46 évesen, a válás után kezdett így a mellékes megkeresésébe, és többnyire akkor áll ki az utcára, amikor lányát vagy az unokáit kell kisegítenie, valakinek születésnapja van, vagy a karácsony közeledik. Szabadidejében Anny egy prostituáltaknak szervezett színjátszó csoport tagja, énekel, aktívan részt vesz a közösség életében.
Különféle munkáiról egyforma humorral és tárgyilagossággal hallhatjuk beszámolni, legyen szó a bolgár lányok vagy a stricik megjelenése miatt változó piacról, vagy a nyilvános WC-ben a visszajáróról.
She is never down and out. Anny has three grown up kids, divorced twice, working as a toilet attendant. At 46, she is voluntarily taking to the streets as a hooker – to make the Christmas happier for her grandchildren. This time-lapse film depicts 16 years of life story of one peculiar woman, whose eyes always stare towards the sky rather than to the ground. She is searching for love, defying misfortune and illness, taking all her difficulties with terse humour and practical point of view.

A 12 éves Di Északi-Vietnám ködbe burkolódzó hegyei közt él. A Hmong etnikai kisebbség tagja, akik nagyon fiatalon adják férjhez lányaikat, így nincs abban semmi meglepő, hogy a nők és lányok szégyenkezés nélkül beszélnek a szexről és házasságról. Di 34 éves anyja már nagymama, teljesen írástudatlan, és alig beszél vietnámi nyelven. A kislány azonban iskolába jár, ahol egészen másféle értékeket tanul. A tanárok arra biztatják őket, hogy a lehető legtovább folytassák tanulmányaikat, mégha a szülők többsége inkább azt várja is el a gyerekeitől, hogy a földeken dolgozzanak. Ahogy Di kamaszkorba lép, anyja a maga módján igyekszik megóvni őt a gyermekházasságtól: Holdújév napján Di utcai vásárra készül, de anyja marasztalja, hogy az év legveszélyesebb napján ne járjon az utcán, ha nem akar a „hagyományos” lányrablás áldozatává válni. Amikor azonban Di szülei éjjel hazatérnek, a ház üresen, némán fogadja őket. Di eltűnt.
Di is a 12-year-old girl living in a village lost in the mist of Northwest Vietnamese mountains. She belongs to the Hmong ethnic minority where women get married very young, enduring the controversial tradition of ‘bride-kidnapping’. When Di enters puberty, her personality changes drastically. The carefree little girl has turns into an impetuous, hypersensitive teenager constantly arguing with her mother who is trying to keep her away from reckless relationships
that she is not mature enough to handle. On the Lunar New Year’s Eve, when Di’s parents come back home after celebrating, the house is silent: Di has disappeared.

Ahogy ránézünk Lumára, főhősnőnkre, a tehénre, az egész világ tükröződik benne. Pontosabban a mi világunk.
This film is an endeavour to consider cows. To move us closer to them. To see both their beauty and the challenge of their lives. Not in a romantic way but in a real way. It’s a film about one dairy cow’s reality and acknowledging her great service to us. When I look at Luma, our cow, I see the whole world in her.

Amin a nyolcvanas évek Afganisztánjában tölti gyermekkora egy részét, nyugati zenéket hallgat, nővéreinek és anyjának sem kell fejkendőt hordania. A szovjetek kivonulásakor apjának azonban nyoma veszik. A polgárháború elől neki és testvéreinek is menekülnie kell. A család Moszkvában talál menedéket, ahonnan Svédországba próbálnának eljutni, de az embercsempészek magas árat kérnek a szabadulásért.
Amin családi döntésre egyedül, a legdrágább és legbiztonságosabb útnak vág neki. Azzal azonban senki sem számol, hogy a fiú repülőjegyén Svédország helyett Dánia szerepel, a menekült státusz megszerzéséhez pedig Aminnak hazudnia kell. Amin ma 36 éves, befutott egyetemi kutató, és barátjával készül összeházasodni. A titok azonban, amit több mint 20 éve magában eltemetve őriz, karrierjét és magánéletét is tönkreteheti.
Amin Nawabi (a pseudonym), a 36-year-old high-achieving academic, grapples with a painful secret he has kept hidden for 20 years, one that threatens to derail the life he has built for himself and his soon to be husband. Recounted mostly through animation to director Jonas Poher Rasmussen — his close friend and high-school classmate, he tells for the first time the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan. Through heartfelt interviews between Jonas and Amin, FLEE tells an unforgettable story of self-discovery. Showing how only by confronting the past is it possible to carve out a future, and the universal truth that only when you stop fleeing from who you are can you find the true meaning of home.

2019-ben hatalmas tüntetéshullám söpört végig Hongkongon a kiadatási törvény módosítási javaslata miatt. A műszaki egyetem diákjai a szabadságért és a demokráciáért harcolnak. A rendőrség tárgyalási módszere agresszív és kiszámíthatatlan, a megafonon bekiabált fenyegetéseket és alkukat politikai üzenetű dalok tarkítják. A diákok színes esernyőkkel védik magukat a brutális rendőri beavatkozásoktól, de a könnygázzal, ütlegeléssel és gumilövedékkel szemben tehetetlenek.
A hatalom elleni bátor harc macska-egér játékba fordul, amikor a rendőrség blokád alá veszi az egyetem épületét, és a diákok erődje így börtönükké válik. Egyre nő a bizonytalanság, a fiatalokon a félelem és kimerültség uralkodik el. Tartsanak ki bent, vagy nézzenek szembe a fegyveresekkel odakint?
By mid-November 2019, Hong Kong freedom fighters had taken up the fort-like red-bricked Polytechnic University as their base. Strategically located next to the cross-harbor tunnel, control of the Polytechnic University allowed for paralyzing the traffic at this important choke point. With the police blocking all exit routes, the Polytechnic University was placed under siege. “Break the siege, save our kids!” Heeding the call for help, countless uprising sympathizers flocked to the streets to take part in a massive rescue operation. It was a long night of heroic battle but the siege remained in force. Trapped inside the red brick wall, many were trying increasingly desperate measures to escape while others went in hiding. As time went by, more and more chose to turn themselves in and surrender. It is always in times of challenge and controversy, that commitment to stick together as one is tested.

2015-ben egy nem éppen hétköznapi izlandi edző, Brynjar Karl Sigurðsson úgy dönt, hogy kosárlabda csapatot alapít, és a legkisebbeket nem a megszokott módon, hanem saját, sokak által vitatott módszerével tanítja kosárlabdázni. A nyolcéves kislányokat nemcsak a sport szeretetével, fegyelemmel, technikai tudással és csapatszellemmel oltja be, hanem pszichésen is felkészíti őket a versenyhelyzetekre. Vezetése alatt a csapat nagyon hamar a korosztálya legjobbja lesz, idősebb lánycsapatokkal egy ligában szerepelnek. Sigurðsson a kislányokból igazi sportolókat nevel, akik nemcsak a pályán, hanem a valós életben is helytállnak, kiállnak saját magukért. Az edző azonban még ennél is magasabbra szeretné emelni a lécet. Az egyetlen lehetőség a fejlődésre, hogy a lányok csak fiúkból álló csapatokkal is összemérjék tudásukat. A külföldön természetes fiú-lány meccseket azonban a női egyenjogúságról híres szigetország kosárlabda szövetsége érdemi párbeszéd nélkül letiltja.
Raise the bar is a feature length documentary about young girls who are training basketball under the guidance of coach Brynjar Karl Sigurdsson. We have been following the girls for four years now and have noticed amazing developments in the mindset of the girls, their behaviour and their basketball techniques. They are unbeatable in mini-basket. High anxiety and a low self-esteem is a known and growing problem for young girls today. This film is an insight into the mind of young girls and will be portraying their path towards their teenage years. This is a story about growing up, were we explore the ideas the girls have about themselves and what is changing in their lives as they train basketball in a way we have hardly seen in a girls team before. We look at them both as individuals, as girls in sports and as team players. Our aim is to use the basketball as the red thread through the story, but adding the layers of the individual girls into the film to understand how they are taking the tools they are handed and using that in their everyday life. We see the ups and the downs and how the girls adapt and develop into strong characters. This is an observational documentary film that shows the deep story that lies inside this amazing basketball project. But this project is certainly not without criticism. It is an amazing story, of team that wants to change the world, and decides to do something about that. The girls have their voice in the film and their parents. It is a controversial observational film about a unique team, fighting the traditional gender division within sports in Iceland, but on a journey that will change the girls lives forever. The final goal is that these girls will become the best national women’s basketball team ever, but moreover, that they become decent human beings.

Vokič úr 26 éve él együtt Malénával. Közösen járják autóval a vidéket, a hosszú és sötét téli délutánokat a meleg szobában töltik, tavasszal pedig együtt rakosgatják a garázs tetején a fészket. Maléna ugyanis egy szárnyatörött gólya, akit Vokič úr fogadott örökbe.
Maléna hűséges párja, Klepetan, a gólyalány sérülése ellenére minden évben, szinte napra pontosan visszatér hozzá.
Az út Afrikából hosszú és veszélyes. Ennek ellenére Maléna már napokkal Klepetan érkezése előtt nyugtalan, nem eszik, folyamatosan a keleti eget fürkészi. De nemcsak ő, hanem Vokič úr, tévéstábok, és a kisváros apraja-nagyja is izgatottan várja Klepetan érkezését.
A különleges gólyaszerelemnek Amerikától Ausztráliáig nemzetközi rajongótábora van: szobrot állítottak neki, színdarab is készült róla. De vajon meddig tarthat még ez a sokaknak reményt és hitet adó kapcsolat?
Shot in the wing by hunters, 28 years ago, stork Malena was left crippled and grounded for ever. Stjepan saved her life by taking her under his wing. Ever since, the two of them have been spending time together, looking forward to the arrival of yet another spring and warm weather. In 2002 Malena found the love of her life on the roof of Stjepan’s garage. Klepetan, as Stjepan named him, returns to Malena every year and together they have raised more than 60 baby storks. Alas, every autumn brings a sad farewell – together with other storks Klepetan sets out on a long journey to Africa, leaving Malena behind alone in the village. Without Stjepan taking care of her, she wouldn’t be able to survive winter and welcome her Klepetan back. And what about Stjepan, what would he do without Malena? Years go by, seasons change, bitter autumns follow joyous springs. This is a story of Malena, Klepetan and Stjepan, and their deep devotion for one another … and also about profound loneliness.
